VIDEO: Egyptian soccer fans rush field after disallowed goal
The last few months have been hectic ones for Egyptian citizens. Having protested their way to independence in a dramatic overthrowing of dictator Hosni Mubarak, many were on cloud nine. Rioting and violence became a way for Egyptians to express their discontent for many of the country’s problems.
Apparently though, those problems also spread to their beloved soccer teams.
Watch as fans of the club team Zamalek storm the field and riot after a disallowed goal versus rival club Africain of Tunisia.
This isn’t the first time Egyptian soccer fans have gotten out of control. Leading up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Egypt was tangled with arch nemesis Algeria for one of the final spots. Traditionally, these games have been chippy and violence in the stands is par for the course. But this time, Egyptian fans allegedly threw stones and attacked several players the day of the game. This led to a neutral site final playoff game between the two countries which Algeria won.
