VIDEO: Florida high school football brawl includes players throwing helmets at coaches
A postgame handshake between two Florida high school football teams quickly erupted into an all-out melee that left one coach injured. The incident occurred last Friday between Leon and Middleburg–two schools located in the northern Florida area (Tallahassee and Jacksonville respectively). Officials reviewed this video over several days to determine what, if any punishment was needed.

On Wednesday, the FHSAA handed down their ruling–and it was ugly.
Ten Leon High football players were suspended Wednesday for their involvement in a postgame fight with Middleburg players last Friday night.
The suspensions were handed down by the Florida High School Athletic Association following a 90-minute conference call with administrators from both schools and their respective school districts.
Three of the players, who have not been named, are not eligible to compete in any athletic contests for one calendar year. Four of the Leon players are suspended from all sports for six weeks and three more will miss one football game.
Middleburg also had 10 players suspended, including two for one year. Five Broncos received six-week suspensions and three were suspended for one game.
Fines from the FHSAA are expected but have not yet been determined.
The coach injured in the brawl was actually struck in the head by a helmet thrown by one of his own players. He was hospitalized and released the next day.
Ugly, ugly incident to say the least.
