VIDEO: Georgetown, China brawl was much uglier than it looked

The Georgetown-China brawl during a friendly exhibition match is now a full-fledged international incident. You’ve no doubt seen the clip by now, but Gene Wang of the Washington Post describes a much more volatile situation. Wang was in attendance at the game and provided first-hand commentary to SportsCenter.

What’s mind-boggling is that a player confronted an opposing coach during a game and was not ejected. I realize that Chinese ownership of U.S. debt is a great concern, but to hire former NBA official Tim Donaghy to try and even the score? Wow, that’s low China.

In case you didn’t catch it, here’s John Thompson III diplomatic statement on the ugly incident.

Tonight, two great teams played a very competitive game that unfortunately ended after heated exchanges with both teams,’’ he said. “We sincerely regret that this situation occurred. We remain grateful for the opportunity our student-athletes are having to engage in a sport they love here in China, while strengthening their understanding of a nation we respect and admire at Georgetown University.

That’s a roundabout way of saying, “damn China, what the f-ck are you guys doing”.
