VIDEO: Goal celebration leads to fracas during Rangers-Lightning game

Regardless of sport, it appears New York based athletes are fond of guns. The Rangers’ Artem Anisimov offered a rifle salute after scoring a shorthanded goal last night against the Lightning. Things got ugly from there as Vincent Lecavalier took exception to what he perceived as a taunt and charged Anisimov. Apparently, Vinny is not a fan of the second amendment.

Watch things unfold below.

After the game, Coach John Tortorella as well as several Rangers players said Ansimov was wrong with his exuberant goal celebration but also defended him.

“I don’t think Artie was doing it against their team and, obviously, Vinny’s going to think that without knowing Artie so that happens,” said ex-Lightning Brad Richards, who calls Lecavalier possibly his best friend. “Artie won’t do that again. He wasn’t trying to embarrass anybody. He was celebrating a nice goal but that’s what happens in hockey. We’ll all move on from that.”

“Artie is just happy he scored a goal and he’s just celebrating,” Rangers captain Ryan Callahan added. “Anyone who knows Artie knows he doesn’t mean anything by it. The guys did a good job jumping in and stepping up for him when Tampa came after him.”

Much ado about nothing. This will be forgotten in a matter of days—that is, until these two teams meet again.
