VIDEO: Huge amateur league baseball brawl results in double forfeit
Baseball brawls, rarely, if ever, include punches, and/or an actual fight taking place. Take, for example, that Phillies-Giants “brawl” Friday night that essentially amounted to guys standing around playing footsies with each other. The most exciting part of that entire incident was Shane Victorino escaping somebody’s grasp only to belly-flop on a pile of players.
This amateur league fight between Cherryville and Douglasville, however, was anything but soft. Here’s a brief recap from the Gaston Gazette.
After the second runner (Blake Mosteller) scored after sliding into home plate and brushing by Douglasville catcher Zachary Graves, words were exchanged between Mosteller and Graves. Then, after Mosteller was about 10 feet away from home plate, Graves threw the baseball and hit Mosteller in the back, touching off the melee.
And here’s video of the fight.
Despite the fact that the game took place during a tournament, officials conferred and ruled a double forfeit, ending both team’s seasons. The catcher who touched off the melee, Zachary Graves, is seen below receiving treatment after the game.
