Which brings us to this game-winning goal from Mexico’s Julio Gomez. A perfectly timed bicycle kick in the 89th minute to defeat Germany and advance to the final.
This is slightly off-topic but I feel I have to share this conversation I had with a bar patron after the goal was scored.
Me: Wow, did you see that goal?
Random bar patron: Uh, you’re talking about soccer?
Me: Yea
Random bar patron: We’re in America man, we don’t watch that kind of stuff
Me: Um, ok
I slowly moved away lest he slap me in the face with a U.S. flag and beat me down with a copy of the Constitution.
