Detroit Tigers’ flame thrower Joel Zumaya’s season is most likely over. His career? Well, that may be in doubt too. In the 8th inning last night against the Twins, Zumaya threw a pitch and crumbled on the grass in pain.
The Tigers offered little details after the game but catcher Gerald Laird said he heard a pop. Whether this means that Zumaya ruptured a ligament/tendon remains to be seen. And despite fact the Tigers won the game and were in sole possession of first place, the mood in the locker room was somber. Phil Coke, a fellow reliever was almost reduced to tears in a post-game interview.
Zumaya will undergo a MRI today to see the extent of the injury.
