VIDEO: John Wall punches Zydrunas Ilgauskas

John Wall could handle one stray elbow from Heat center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, but the second rogue arm flare got his blood boiling. So Wall, naturally, did what many in his position would do, he threw a punch. Unfortunately, Wall was like Little Mac trying to punch Soda Popinski and only made contact with his midsection. He definitely should have waited for his “star punch”.

That 45-year old wiley NBA veteran you see acting like a tough guy in the altercation is Juwan Howard. I’m not sure who he thinks he is, but I’m fairly certain there is nobody in the NBA who fears him.

Howard was ejected from the game along with Wall and Ilgauskas. A trade the Miami Heat would welcome every night when the team’s best player hits the showers early. They were able to pull away after the altercation en route to a 123-107 win.

Wall, for his part, handled the post-game comments rather maturely for a rookie saying he let the team down.

“Got hit by the elbow and reacted to it. Disappointed in the way I reacted. I let my teammates down, let the organization down,” Wall said. “It was two elbows. I got hit with the first one; I stopped and waited. And the second one, I got hit, and I just reacted.”

There was no comment from Juwan Howard because frankly, the pool reporters were probably still stunned he had a job in the NBA. The league will review the incident to see if any further discipline needs to take place. For Wall’s case, the ejection seemed sufficient but in this day and age of pansy NBA play, a punch is usually worth a few games. Stay tuned.
