VIDEO: Malaysian fans try to blind Singaporean goalie with laser pointer during World Cup qualifier
Note to self, Malaysian fans take their soccer very seriously. Here’s video of a World Cup qualifying match between Singapore and Malaysia yesterday where a fan tries to blind a goalie with a green laser beam right before a free kick.
Thankfully, Singapore goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud was not injured during the incident. And yes, for what it’s worth, your teacher was not lying to you in elementary school–your retina can indeed be damaged from laser pointers.
In most cases, it’s no laughing matter, however, this rather large green beam seems much less dangerous than the more familiar red dot. Then again, I’m not an ophthalmologist nor do I even pretend to play one on the internet. I did, however, stay a Holiday Inn Express last night.
