VIDEO: Mike Vick concussion, Dunta Robinson cheap shot
The Atlanta Falcons stormed back from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit en route to a 35-21 victory in Sunday night football. Adding insult to injury for the Eagles, Michael Vick suffered a concussion at the end of the third quarter.
Everyone feared that Vick, at some point this season, would take a vicious hit. Who knew that the hit would be an inadvertent one from his own lineman. It appears, however, that Vick will be ok provided he can pass concussion-specific testing this week.
The news will not be so good for Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson whose cheap shot nearly decapitated Jeremy Maclin in the middle of the third quarter. If you recall, it was Robinson who had a similar incident last year against the Eagles with DeSean Jackson.
Don’t be surprised if the NFL drops the hammer on Robinson with a heavy fine. And frankly, it would be more than deserving. There’s no gray area with a hit like that. Launching yourself with the crown of the helmet and arms pinned back is exactly the kind of stuff the NFL wants to get away from.
After the game, Robinson defended himself saying it was a “legal hit”.
“I felt that it was a legal hit even though I was penalized in that instance,” Robinson said. “Again, I feel strongly that there will not be any further repercussion.”
I think Roger Goodell begs to differ sir.
