VIDEO: Nick Collison’s sweat causes unusual time delay
Last night, with the Oklahoma City Thunder up one and just a few seconds remaining, Nick Collison dove to the floor to prevent Dirk Nowitzki from getting the ball. A foul was called and Dirk calmly went to the stripe and tied the game. But immediately afterwards, there appeared to be some commotion on the sidelines as the ball boys were instructed by the Thunder bench to clean up the “sweat”.
Now, I’m unaware of Collison’s perspiring habits but I can assure you that a good five second mop up job should do the trick in this situation. Instead, Dirk’s second free throw was delayed almost a full minute.
The uploader of the video claims that there was some gamesmanship on the part of the Thunder as they poured some water on the court. There’s certainly no evidence of that in this clip but the Thunder players were definitely overplaying the seriousness of the aforementioned sweaty Collison.
Nevertheless, Dirk calmly hit the second free throw to give the Mavs the lead and the rest, as they say, is history.
