VIDEO: Petra Kvitova airballs an overhead

Petra Kvitova is well on her way to becoming the top ranked player in the world. A number of analysts, including tennis legend Martina Navratilova, believe she has the all-around game to end Caroline Wozniacki’s 67-week reign atop the standings.

But that certainly doesn’t mean Kvitova is playing flawless tennis. In her fourth round match against Ana Ivanovic, Kvitova set up for a routine overheard…and completely whiffed.

Kvitova came apart at the seams after the embarrassing gaffe, losing the next eight points. If not for her some well placed aces, she may have found herself losing that second set to Ivanovic. In the end, however, she righted the ship in the tiebreaker and won 6-2, 7-6.

She laughed off the incident in a post-match interview:

“You know, it was really easy point. I missed it. Actually I don’t know why, what’s happened,” Kvitova said of the botched overhead after the match. “It was tough to get back and be focused on every point when I served. … But, yeah, fortunately I did it.”

With Serena Williams out of the Australian Open, Kvitova is the clear favorite, assuming, of course, she can keep these type of gaffes to a minimum.
