VIDEO: Play-by-play announcer Thom Brennaman thinks this guy is a clown
NFL reserves are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to make a play on special teams. On a dynamic, weekly 53-man roster, you are one injury, one broken tackle, one missed block away from being on the streets without a job.
Which brings us to the venerable Jerome Boyd, a 2nd-year backup safety for the Oakland Raiders. On Sunday, Boyd nearly decapitated Don Carey of the Detroit Lions on a blindside helmet-to-helmet hit during a kickoff return. He was flagged for the incident and it subsequently wiped out a huge, 76-yard gain.
Under most circumstances, guys would be upset for two reasons. One, they almost killed someone. Two, they were slapped with a personal foul penalty. Mr. Boyd, however, was yucking it up on the sidelines with his compatriots.
The behavior made Fox play-by-play man Thom Brennaman irate. Listen as he is caught in an off-mic moment calling Boyd a clown.
