VIDEO: Serena Williams rolls ankle in Brisbane
Serena Williams made it pretty clear recently that she didn’t love tennis and would rather be doing other things with her life. Well, only days after making that comment, Serena rolled her ankle badly in a match at the Brisbane International–a warm-up tournament for the Australian Open in two weeks.
Williams hobbled into a post-match news conference with her ankle heavily wrapped and initially said she was “anticipating it’ll be OK.”
“I’m always thinking I can play on, but at the same time I don’t want to stress it out right now,” Williams said.
Even if Williams’ ankle heals, her fitness for the year’s first Grand Slam tournament could be an issue given that she’s only played two matches in four months.
A trip to the hospital revealed a sprained left ankle forcing her to withdraw from Brisbane.
Here’s video of the injury.
Yet another health setback could be disastrous for Serena who was the prohibitive favorite for a tournament she has won a record five times. But, as she said before, she has much more going on besides tennis–like her burgeoning career as a model.
