When Jordan Ruutu took a chunk out of a player’s hand this week, I thought it was an isolated incident.
No way was the NHL a league of cheap shot artists and biters. These are guys who man up and fight when things go wrong. And real fights too. Not that sissy crap that happens in the NBA or MLB.
But apparently, Ruutu isn’t the only guy to take a bite out of crime. Detroit defenseman Chris Chelios admits to biting Tomas Sandstrom back in his uglier days with Montreal….
“I bit Tomas Sandstrom when I was in Montreal,” admitted Chelios. “We were in a fight and he tried to gouge my eyes. It was just a natural instinct to do that (bite).“Plus the fact it was him. He was probably one of the most hated guys playing back then.”
Let’s hope for everyone sakes right now, that Chris Chelios keeps his mouth closed. The last thing the NHL needs is a 46 year old denture’s hanging off someone’s glove.
Probably won’t be good for the league image.
