Wayne Simmonds has banana thrown at him during Flyers-Wings game

Wayne Simmonds, one of only a handful of African-American players in the NHL, had a banana thrown at him during last night’s Flyers-Wings preseason game. Unfortunately, the banana thrower was not caught by Labatt Centre security. Here’s what Simmonds had to say after the game:
“I’ve never had a banana thrown at me before. That’s a first for me,” he said. “I guess it’s something I obviously have to deal with _ being a black player playing a predominantly white sport. I’ve grown a lot playing in this league and throughout my whole life. I’m not going to dwell on that. It’s over with now.”
No Mr. Simmonds, it’s not something you “have to deal with”. It’s disgusting, and had it happened in an NHL arena, the person probably would have been caught.
