Ferris Bueller 309x130 Writer reveals what Cubs game Ferris Bueller attended on his day off

For many of us, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was the quintessential 1980′s movie. A high school teenager planning out an entire day while faking an illness and tricking his parents is something that we all dreamed of doing but never had the resources to pull off.

One of the many adventures Ferris has that day is a trip to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play. You probably recall the scene as Ferris complains of a broken thumb after catching a foul ball.

Well, one Baseball Prospectus writer has done his due diligence and found out exactly which game Ferris attended. Either this guy has way too much time on his hands, or he’s just a big Ferris fan (aren’t we all).

Ferris Bueller and his pals were at the June 5, 1985, tilt between the Cubs and the Braves. The foul ball that Ferris caught was hit by Atlanta rightfielder Claudell Washington (#15) in the top of the 11th inning. The game was tied at two (not scoreless, like the pizza guy claimed) and backup second-baseman Paul Zuvella (#18) was being held on first by Leon Durham (#10) after a leadoff single (the fourth hit of the game, and Atlanta’s first hit since the fifth)

I’m certainly not doing the post justice with this excerpt, so make sure you click over. The details the writer used from the movie to deduce exactly what game it was would even impress a cocaine induced Sherlock Holmes.
