Yao Ming’s retirement gets Taiwanese animation treatment
Yao Ming officially retired yesterday from the NBA yesterday after several injury plagued seasons. From 2005-2011, Ming missed more than 40% of the Houston Rockets regular season games. When he was healthy though, there weren’t many centers in the game better than him. Most experts consider him to be a borderline Hall of Famer and the numbers certainly back him up–19.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 8-time All-Star, 5-time All-NBA 2nd, 3rd team. But his inability to take the Rockets deep into the playoffs will ultimately be the black mark in an otherwise impressive career.
All that said, he was popular enough to get the Taiwanese animation treatment. So hopefully, when the voters get their ballot for the Hall of Fame, they’ll recognize this glorious achievement as only a select few, important individuals get this type of recognition.
