Youth football coach beats up dad for trying to recruit his players
Overbearing parents and coaches are quickly becoming the norm in youth sports. Barely a week goes by without a local news story of a fight between fans and family members in the stands. Take for example this story in San Diego of a youth football coach who assaulted a dad because he believed he was trying to recruit one of his own players.
By the way, this was a 10-12 year old league. God help us all.
According to police, Savaiinea allegedly confronted the 32-year-old father, punched him in the shoulder and kicked him in the stomach.
The father fell and hit his head on the pavement and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent a CAT scan to assess the extent of his injuries. police said.
Unfortunately, punching and kicking people in the stomach isn’t enough to warrant charges being filed as prosecutors decided to pass on this one. I’m not sure if that’s standard operating procedure for the San Diego justice system or if the D.A.’s kid is the star quarterback on the team.
Regardless, I feel my thoughts on the San Diego area can most aptly be described by Ron Burgundy in Anchorman.
