VIDEO: Zdeno Chara’s brutal hit on Max Pacioretty

Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara claimed after the game the hit was unintentional. But from the replay, it certainly looks like there was malice there.

If you haven’t seen the clip yet, consider this your warning. There is no blood involved and Max Pacioretty seems to be o.k. (although he was taken to the hospital for observation), but the hit itself is as grisly as it comes. Pacioretty’s head catches the center ice glass that separates the two benches.

Chara was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit.

**UPDATE**

Max Pacioretty fractured a vertebrae and suffered a severe concussion from the hit. There is no prognosis at this time but it appears, at least for the time being, that he is out indefinitely.
