He was a hard-nosed runner, blocker and special teams player.

The cause of death was unknown Tuesday. Tatupu suffered from high-blood pressure and other ailments.

Guy was a hell of an athlete. He had a record for rushing yards in Hawaii that stood for 17 years. Incredible that he managed to play 13 years and 199 games in the NFL. At the time of his retirement, he had played more games at running back than anybody else before him.

Quite an achievement for a man who was mainly a blocking fullback at USC.

Fellow teammate Don Hasselbeck had this to say about him

“I’m devastated,” Don Hasselbeck told the Boston Herald. Hasselbeck was Tatupu’s teammate, and his son, Matt, is Lofa’s teammate on the Seahawks.

“Man, I remember we used to tease him because he played great in the snow and was from Hawaii. He had that running style, a great low base. He played so hard. Man, this is hard to comprehend with someone that age.”

RIP

Mosi Tatupu dead at 54 {Star Bulletin}

Sports pic of the day

A. I know, long nickname right?

As for Bill Belichick and Andy Reid, both faced similar situations over the weekend. That is to say, both their respective teams got trounced well before halftime (as we predicted).

It’ll be an interesting off-season for both these squads. New England needs some serious help on the defensive side of the ball. I mean, when Joe Flacco wins a game throwing for less than 40 yards, I’m guessing your run defense needs to be shored up a little. And while Andy Reid has already vehemently defended Donovan McNabb and said he will be the team’s QB in 2010, he’s also in the last year of his contract. Something to keep your eye on in the next few months.

Wild card weekend picks

A. But when the other team accuses you of “giving up”, then you have a problem. This is what Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble had to say

“We knew he was going to shut it down,” Gamble told the Boston Globe after the game. “That’s what we wanted him to do. That’s what we did … He’d just give up a lot. Slow down, he’s not going deep, not trying to run a route. You can tell, his body language.”

Gamble continued: “I know everyone who plays against him, they can sense that. Once you get into him in the beginning of the game, he shuts it down a little bit.”

Moss’ lackluster performance could be attributed to being reprimanded for his tardiness to a Wednesday morning meeting. For the record, Moss finished with one catch for 16 yards, one dropped pass, one lost fumble, and a fourth-quarter false start penalty, and the home crowd also booed him.

Case 2: Detroit Lions

The Lions are no strangers to losing games….and even perhaps the occasional 20-30 point blowout. But a 45 point loss to an average Ravens team? Not acceptable by any means. The Lions continually missed tackles all game and frankly, lacked effort for much of the second half. Their coach Jim Schwartz is now considering benching and cutting some guys because of it. If you’re keeping score at home by the way, that’s not 19 straight road losses for the 2-11 Lions who are staring a top 3 pick in the draft squarely in the face.

FOOTBAAAAAAALLLLLLL

videos

Buffalo Bills

DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket review

Fantasy

Fantasy football

Fantasy football advice

Monday Night Football

New England Patriots

New England Patriots 50th anniversary

NFL

Sponsored posts

sports

Indulge me here for a minute. I never cover sports because, well, other people do it with way more enthusiasm, but this weekend I got DirecTV’s Superfan Sunday NFL Ticket package and I have to say my life is completely changed. More than ever, I now want to run away with the NFL and make adorable, leather-clad babies with it. Anyway, because I want to talk football, here’s a video of the Cheers theme being sung by NFL fans and players.

That video’s good because if there’s one team who needs more attention, it’s the New England Patriots. Congratulations to the team and their unknown quarterback Tommy Whatshisname on their special anniversary. Hopefully me posting this video will get them the recognition they deserve for tonight’s Monday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills.

Anywayyyyyy, my fantasy team is the greatest ever. Drew Brees, Adrian Peterson, Kevin Smith (who was meh, but he’ll be at that same level all year), Greg Jennings, Jerricho Cotchery, Jason Witten, and some other a-holes. This is the year I regain that coveted, worthless crown of Fantasy Football Champion.

If you’d like sage wisdom from The New Fantasy King of Fantasy Football and Fantasy Related Endeavors, please feel free to ask in the comments. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity.

TODD KOBUS BLINDSIDES JUNIOR SEAU

A.
