7 roller coasters that will make you crap your pants

You either love them or hate them, roller coasters have kept people coming back to theme parks since the early 1900s. Responsible for countless cases of nausea and in very rare cases death, these giants of engineering are definitely one of the most fun adrenaline rushes a person can get… legally, at least.
1 Superman the Escape Six Flags Magic Mountain, California
Built to give riders the thrill of flying with the man of steel himself, this coaster opened in 1997 and was at the time the tallest in the world. Oddly, enough its drop is also the same height as the Tower of Terror coaster at the same park. Two parallel tracks blasts riders from zero to 100mph in only 7 seconds. If you need to change your Super Friends underoos after riding, I don’t blame you.
2 Thunder Dolphin Tokyo Dome City, Japan
This impressive roller coaster opened in Tokyo, Japan in 2003 and has been delivering the thrills ever sense. Currently the 5th tallest roller coaster in the world it’s also an impressive piece of engineering as it passes through hole in a park building as well as the center of a Ferris wheel. Capable of delivering more screams to the Japanese than Godzilla, it’s truly a marvel to behold.
3 Mindbender Galaxyland, Canada
Steel roller coasters have come a long way since the Mindbender opened in 1985. But it still holds the world record for “largest indoor triple loop.” And get this – it’s located inside a mall. Just a year after it opened a crash with one of the coaster cars resulted in the deaths of three people. After reopening seven months later the Mindbender has had an exceptional safety record and continues to terrify “mallrats” to this day.
4 Colossus Thorpe Park, England
The Brits know a good roller coaster. Actually, German coaster designer Werner Stengel is the brains behind this juggernaut which opened in 2002 with an impressive 10 inversions. A vertical loop, cobra roll, two corkscrews, and five heartline twists. Count’em, that’s 10 chances to lose your bangers and mash lunch. It’s such an impressive roller coaster that China built an exact replica called, The Tenth Ring in 2006.
5 Shivering Timbers Michigan’s Adventure, Michigan
Steel roller coasters with their impressive loops and near freefall drops certainly look more terrifying, but wooden roller coasters can hold their own in the scream department. Maybe it’s the realization that it’s only wood and could splinter apart at any second. At a max speed of 65 miles per hour Shivering Timbers sends riders over two camelback hills of 100 ft and 95 ft, making it one of the most popular rides in the park.
6 Top Thrill Dragster Cedar Point, Ohio
This extraordinary behemoth is one of only two “Strata Coasters” (a complete circuit coaster over 400 ft) in existence. It’s so tall in fact that it’s equipped with strobes for warning any air traffic that maybe be flying in its space. When it opened in 2003, it broke three records – fastest, tallest, and steepest drop. And isn’t that all that you could really want in a roller coaster anyways? The Park’s tagline for this coaster is, “Race for the Sky.” My Uncle Jimmy’s, “look at that sumbitch.”
7 Kingda Ka Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey
In this corner, standing at an astounding 456 ft, reaching a max speed of 128 mph in 3.5 seconds, the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world – Kingda Ka. Almost identical to its “strata” cousin at Cedar Point, its hydraulic launch blasts riders down the track before climbing its main tower and descending 418 ft down through a stomach-turning 270-degree spiral. $25,000,000 and over 3,000 feet of track for spine tingling, pants wetting, vomit inducing 28 seconds of roller coaster glory. Yeah, baby!
