And you thought your game collection was impressive/especially sad
Simply check out “Ahans76″s collection of PS2 games. The dude has every game ever made. Seriously.
Okay, only in the United States, but still, that’s a TON of titles. And did I mention that everything is sealed?
Now, don’t get me wrong: I’m a collector as well, sorta. Though my general interest lies in stuff from Japan, and because the game itself is from a favorite genre or developer, but also something I enjoy… you know… playing? Having sealed games (especially en masse) is ridiculous; games are meant to be played and enjoyed, not just looked at on some shelf. Just call me back when a game can commonly fetch the high prices as some vintage baseball card or comic book and I guess I’ll change my tune. Actually, there are folks who have NES games sealed and graded, but at least those are super old and rare at this point. And maybe that sealed copy of Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror might be a hot commodity… in like 175 years.
Anyway, here’s an interview with the dude, and for the most part it’s rather innocent and boring, with the only real meat on them bones exchange being…
“Q: We at PlaystationCollecting.com are nuts for Playstation games, but even in our community it’s a rarity to find someone going for a full set. Not just because it’s a time consuming and expensive feat, but also because the enormous amounts of titles that got released for the system. How come you’re the exception and did go for the full set?”
A: I didn’t try to go for a full collection at first, I kind of fell into it. I started acquiring more Playstation 2 games, more then I could play, so I decided to just leave them sealed. At first I had about 300 or 400 sealed and then I decided to look up on the internet how many games there were. At the time a website said that there were 800. Being halfway there I decided, why not go for a full collection? Later I found out that I wasn’t even a quarter of the way there. By that time I had already acquired so many games from stores going out of business (like game crazy) that I continued collecting and went for the full set. Since there are still games being released for the Playstation 2 the set is not final yet, but to the best of my knowledge it’s about 1850+ different titles, not counting variants.”
1,850 games? Jesus? And that’s not counting all the things for other systems that he also has. Craziest part? Dude is married and totally supports him 100%. She even makes checklists with him and goes on these crazy ass trips to hunt down games. That’s real love people.
