Blackberry Messenger coming to Android and iOS?

Until now, suckas. Well, reportedly until now — Boy Genius Report claims that BBM is en route for Android and likely iOS as well.

There’s been no announcement, so don’t get your pants soaked just yet, but it seems like a pretty reasonable movement for RIM, because allowing third-party people to make money off of a Blackberry product seems pretty dumb.

And almost everyone who owns an iPhone or an Android would probably download the RIM software, provided, of course, that the other smartphones actually allow RIM to get up in their steez.

It’s also worth noting that BGR reports the version of BBM that would become available to non-Blackberry users is a “stripped-down version,” which probably means no location, photos or videos. Whatevs. If you want all that — because you’re too cheap to buy text messaging? — then just switch to Blackberry.

What might make this particularly interesting is the possibility of having “text” capabilities in areas where service is shoddy. That would require BBM working with wireless only (a la having Skype in place of a phone line when you’re out of service range), but that doesn’t seem like such a crazy stretch.
