CyberQ: Mess with your grill wirelessly
I love gadgets, obviously, but even I think there are some things that don’t need wireless. Like your grill, for example. The entire point of a grill is to stand in front of it, roasting meat and drinking beer. But apparently, some people just have to get all fancy.
Enter the CyberQ WiFi, the name of which proves that godawful puns in tech will not die.
Essentially, like most professional grill temperature controls, this is a fan hooked up to a set of controls. These are actually pretty useful for hardcore BBQ enthusiasts because it allows you to precisely set the temperature, meaning the meat is cooking perfectly.
But, apparently, these things needed a WiFi connection so they can be controlled from your smartphone, and a “web server” so they can send you email in case something goes wrong with your meat.
Of course, all of this raises the question of why, exactly, you’re not at the grill, roasting the meat properly in the first place. Grilled meat does need constant attention, after all. Mostly this just seems like a kitchen gadget with extra tech crammed into it to justify a $300 price tag. But, hey, the smartphone control is pretty neat, at least.
