Nikon D4 is a droolworthy new DSLR

If you’re a photographer, you’re either a Canon guy or a Nikon guy. The problem has been that if you’re a filmmaker, you tend to have to be a Canon guy because Nikon’s weren’t hot in the whole “making digital videos” department. Well, all that’s changed with their latest flagship, the D4. And oh, is it ever sweet.

product 01 Nikon D4 is a droolworthy new DSLRFirst, the basics: it’s a 16 megapixel CMOS camera, with huge pixels. Big pixels are important because tiny pixels are more likely to cause noise and distortion in your image.

Even better, it’s a light suck, with an ISO of up to 204,800. For those of you that aren’t photography nerds, this thing basically has night vision.

But the most advanced parts are the video options. It shoots 24 frame 1080p, of course: that’s standard. But the real winner is the fact that it streams uncompressed, high definition video right out of the HDMI port that comes standard on the camera. This means that if you want to shoot a professional looking independent movie on this thing, you can get the pure, raw data straight off the camera and onto a hard drive for easy editing, color tweaking, and all that fun stuff.

So, a camera this awesome comes at a price, right? Yep, and here’s where it hurts your wallet: $6000. Admittedly, this is a $6000 camera that you will use for a solid decade, so it’s like you’re only paying $600 a year! At least that’s how I’m pitching it to my girlfriend.
