For those who may have heard “the news”… don’t believe it. Or so sez Bethesda, totally flat out, and in a rare PR move. At least in an age in which every big company ignores nasty rumors.

doom3 Reports of Doom 4s death has been greatly exaggerated

Screen shot from Doom 3; the sequel should look better... theoretically.

So here’s the deal: Rage hasn’t been performing up to expectations. The critics haven’t been too kind towards the game, with reviews being mixed at best; most have noted its technical prowess, along with the fact that fact that the story is just “there”, and how many of its ideas, while interested, are lacking in the execution.

Though we all know that many have struggled to enjoy the aforementioned pretty graphics, which in turn has led to much anger towards the folks who made the game, for basically turning their backs on the industry that they helped to create.

With all that in mind, it was perhaps not shocking to hear rumors that were originally reported by Kotaku that the next game that id/Bethesda was going to be working on, the much anticipated Doom 4, was being “indefinitely postponed”.

Though anyone that might have checked the source might have also noticed an update! According to Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda Softworks, via Twitter, “games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed – indefinitely or otherwise.”

Furthermore he also noted that the rumors were “complete bollocks.”

In a day and age in which almost no company goes on the record on anything… especially due to some rumor on the internets… it’s quite the bold move from Bethesda! Though Doom 4 could still be coming out… for iPhone only. You never know!

What'd you think of this?
