Stihl offers ‘green’ chainsaw for all those tree-hugging lumberjacks
Dan Seitz The term “oxymoron” is rarely used in our modern culture, or at least rarely used correctly. But we’re pretty sure “green chainsaw” is a good one. Really, Stihl? You’re going to promote a battery-powered device designed to cut down trees as “Caring for Nature” (no, really, there’s a little badge on their site that says just that)? Really?
On the other hand, this chainsaw is so awesome, even people who hate trees will love it.
To be fair to Stihl, the real appeal of this thing isn’t that you can protect the trees; it’s so that homeowners and handymen can do their jobs without hauling a lot of fuel along with them to power their chainsaws. Chainsaws are serious gas moochers, and even worse, they can’t run on straight gasoline, but need a fuel/oil mixture. Being able to do away with that makes household clean-up of fallen trees and tree limbs a snap for the homeowner, and makes it worth the $350 Stihl wants for it.
Also, you get to pull out a battery-powered chainsaw the next time some jerk is blabbering about his Prius and tell him you used it to cut down some trees in his yard. Because you’re eco-conscious.
