The awesome machete from ‘Walking Dead’ actually exists

gerber machete xl 135x95 The awesome machete from Walking Dead actually existsWe know what you’re thinking; OK, so the awesome machete I saw in the “Walking Dead” premiere actually exists, but it’s just a piece of merchandise, right? A toy for people with too much money and not enough friends? There’s no way that’s an actual tool that people use?

Gerber, the manufacturer, disagrees. This is not just awesome-looking, it’s real, functional, and awesome period. Meet the Gerber Gator Machete Pro.

Gerber, which sadly has nothing to do with the baby food people, is a professional knife and multi-tool manufacturer out of Oregon. These are the guys who make knives for Bear Grylls, although they don’t make any cups, before you ask.

This wasn’t deliberately designed as a prop, either. Instead, it was designed for outdoorsmen, hikers, campers, and other people who need to deal with heavy brush but also pack light. The blade design allows you to use it as an axe, a knife, or, of course, a machete. In other words, it looks cool, but it looks cool for a reason.

Of course, they also have a sense of humor about it: it’s part of a line of tools Gerber designed for the apocalypse and that will be featured on “The Walking Dead” as a promotional tie-in. But, hey, everybody knows that you need a machete to kill zombies, so why not look good doing it?
