Want: TwelveSouth’s fancy iPad BookBook case
I’m not particularly sure how I missed BookBook when it came out before, as it’s already been covered by Oprah (in her magazine, no less). While that would normally mean it’s jumped the shark, I’m fairly certain that this qualifies as one of the more awesome things I’ve seen in terms of iPad cases.
Basically, it’s a really rustic case for the iPad (and iPad 2, natch) that looks like a leather-bound book.
You’re damn right Ron Burgandy would be proud, and you’re damn right that if you take this bad boy to a Starbucks and prop it up to watch SXSW live-streaming, you will get hit on by a semi-attractive barista. (And, if I happen to be in the store, probably get a piping-hot non-fat soy mocha latte poured on your head.)
But potential snootiness of the product aside, it does give a good overall aesthetic feel to an extremely modernized product.
I’ve dropped the video in below from TwelveSouth that justifies the portability and ease of use for the BookBook, and it looks like, to a degree, that it’s not quite as simple and safe to travel with as a normal iPad case.
But that’s kind of the story with all these fancy tablet cases — if you want to give your tiny computer an old-school feel and take away the cold hipsterness of it, you typically have to sacrifice some degree of efficiency.
Although as far as these things go, BookBook does look like it’s got a good combination of what people want from their tablet case, and for a not-too-hefty price tag of $69.99.
