Yo-Yo Mouse makes recharging your peripherals fun
We love product concepts if for no other reason than it tells us the future of goofy stuff. Concept cars may never hit the road, concept products may never be made, but the ideas tend to percolate and, besides, they’re fun to think about.
Like the idea of your job issuing you a yo-yo to use as a mouse on your computer, because it’ll help save the environment and cut down on battery usage. Hey, going green is a sacrifice.
If the Yo-Yo Mouse sounds dumb, it’s only because we haven’t explained the physics yet. A yo-yo works because it gets momentum as you throw it downwards. When you reach the end of the string, that momentum takes over and spins the yo-yo on its axle. Yank on the string and the momentum starts wrapping the string around the axle, pulling the yo-yo up.
This is also how you tend to charge batteries on, say, a Prius or a survival flashlight: the kinetic energy of your braking or shaking is converted to electrical energy. So, essentially, what you have is a wireless mouse that’s simple to discharge and, in fact, actually helps ergonomically since yo-yoing forces you to move your arms and shoulders into a different position than using a mouse.
Of course, there’s no reason for it to be a yo-yo. It could just as easily be, say, a retractable ripcord, if you’re not feeling playful. The product is only a concept right now, but we won’t be surprised if a lot more techies start learning yo-yo tricks in the future.
