Does PSNgate have its first legit victim?

Apparently some poor dude in Australia was hit with $2,000′s worth bogus charges, with the belief being it stems from the Sony hackers. Plus a few other recent updates.

itonlydoes Does PSNgate have its first legit victim?

First off, we’re like day 9 or 10 of the PlayStation Network being offline (I’ve officially lost track). And during this time, myself and everyone else have been waiting for the first real case of someone’s financial info being abused by the aforementioned outside party or parties. When reports began circulating that the major credit card companies had seen no real sign of fraud, everyone’s anxiety began to slowly lessen.

Well, if this instance of credit tampering is indeed connected, we all of a sudden have much to worry about all over again. Meanwhile, the hunt for those responsible continues as the FBI joins almost two dozen other states, as they conduct their investigations into matter.

Another major source of talk is how much this whole debacle is going to cost everyone, not just PSN users. Everyone, from Sony, who has to spend a ton of money with their own investigations and rebuilding the PSN infrastructure from scratch (boo hoo), to even the credit card companies, for all the new plastic they have to produce (can’t say I’m super sympathetic to them, since all that extra cost will no doubt be spread to those not even involved with the mess).

Oddly enough, the one group I felt bad for the most, i.e. the indie game devs who are the main reasons why I even set up a PSN account in the first place (it sure as hell is not to play games online, cuz I suck at that). Surprisingly, they’re not getting as hit hard as one would expect, or so says certain folks.

By far the most unsettling news is how all that stolen info is effectively up for sale. Though no idea of how that guy in Australia’s case fits into all of this. Was his card stolen separate from these dudes; did a bunch of people storm the gates and get their own bits of info? Or did what happen down under have nothing to do with PSNgate?

And by far the most infuriating news item, meant to make us all happy, but the effect could not be any further, is Sony’s assurance that all our trophies will be fine. Gee, thanks.

Finally, my search for a Hitler ranting and raving about PSN video, at least one that’s actually decent, continues. I found a second one, that’s funnier than the last crappy example, but not by much…

Again, with the threats to beat up the women outside. Guess that’s what happens when you can’t think of anything funny.

What'd you think of this?
