Gears of War 3 is out already thanks to Microsoft’s stupidity
Matt Hawkins GoW 3 is supposed to the Xbox 360′s big fall blockbuster, but it might be this summer’s thanks to it being leaked online. And you’ll never guess how that happened.
It wasn’t the final game, but an early, yet still very much feature complete build. One that was designed for developers and which you just can’t run on the 360 you have at home, but still. Many wonder how it happened, and many assumed that there was someone dirty on the inside. Well guess what…
It was Microsoft’s fault. The game was placed on some server for press and PR folks to gain access to. Which is actually common practice, but generally there’s some semblance of security. But apparently, there was no login, no password, literally nothing. The entire thing was just out there, in the open, free for anyone to grab. Crazy, huh? The site in question btw is Codify, though the game is long gone.
Great job MS! Could have definitely be worse, but still, what a screw-up. No comment thus far from Microsoft, Unreal, or Ice T at the moment.
