Mortal Kombat Legacy’s home video release finally detailed
It’s actually happening: the web series that revolved around the Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and company’s quest for victory (which was also largely unresolved) is leaving the confines of YouTube and going after an ever greater goal: profitability.
Though it could be argued that such a mission has already been accomplished. It’s hard to gauge how much help Legacy was in the end, there is no doubt that Mortal Kombat has risen from the ashes as that quirky fighter that everyone had fond, nostalgia-tined memories of, but little else, into a serious contender that can easily stand toe-to-toe with the today’s crop of fighters. By offering just as much finesse and sophistication, but also a stripped down, back to basics feel that harkens back to an age in which fighters weren’t so needlessly complicated (something many have attempted, but rarely been able to pull off).
Anyway, regarding the home video release, expect the following:
- All nine episodes, in high-def glory (more on that in a sec).
- Behind the scenes, “making of” extras.
- A look at the Mortal Kombat mythos.
- And an up close look at the director, Kevin Tancharoen, whose a self professed MK super fan.
I just wonder if any of the existing material will be enhanced, which is par for the course with such efforts. Hopefully they’ll do something about the atrocious Mileena and Kitana episodes. Oy vey. Oh, and back to the HD part; it’s only coming out on Blu-ray, so you DVD only suckers are out of luck. Yeah, odd, I know. It comes out November 8th for $19.99.
