Sorry, but Nintendo is not making iPhone games any time soon, nor ever
As if it honestly needs to be stated, but since stupid people keep asking stupid questions, the president of Nintendo is going to have to answer.
Once again, Japanese analysts are claiming that to stay afloat, Nintendo will need to start making iPhone games. So the guy who runs the ship, Satoru Iwata, recently made a statement regarding the matter. What was the official line on the matter? As The Unofficial Apple Weblog states:
“This is absolutely not under consideration.”
The man has said repeatedly that they will never produce games for anyone other than themselves, at least not while he’s around, and even if he does get the boot (which I highly doubt), or worse yet dies, there’s a 99% chance that his successor will have the same stance.
Why? Because Nintendo got to where they are due to because of their hardware division. For years folks have been begging the big N to go software only, which to be honest would be awesome, because that would mean one less console or handheld to buy, one that’s (to be completely honest) totally inferior to the competition.
Yet we all buy it, cuz that’s the only way to enjoy Mario and company. If they go software only, they loose it all, their profit margin, many of their unique attributes. They would instead become just another software house, and we all know how well that’s worked out for Sega. Note: that ship has sunk for a number of reasons, though the death of the Dreamcast was the main catalyst for sure.
Mostly because it caused a lack of confidence, not just on the inside, but on the outside. And we all know how wacky Nintendo fans can be, which look upon Shigeru Miyamoto, the guy who makes all their best games, as a god amongst men. Can’t really argue that point, btw. Though Another reason why Nintendo’s games do so well is that they really run the show; their games are the best, because they made the hardware and know all the in’s and out’s. Plus their stuff gets all the attention on the retails chain.
If they were to go software only, many, they’ll get eaten up by the competition like nothing else. Though ultimately, Nintendo is a very Japanese company, and they all have way too much pride, to a fault. So even if things are especially made, it’s a safe bet that Nintendo would never license out Mario or Link or Samus to be in some iOS game, nor anyone else.
So basically, Nintendo games on the iPhone, Xbox 360, or PS3? In your dreams, pal.
