The future of live-action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movie now in question thanks to the folks who make the game

According to inside Hollywood sources, the deal that Ubisoft managed to cut is so sweet for themselves that everyone else might be weary of getting involved.

Joystiq reports that Ubisoft’s deal grants them final say on virtually every single aspect of the upcoming live-action adaptation’s production. Everything from the budget, case, script, even the the release date, needs the game maker’s seal of approval. Something that even the biggest of Hollywood’s players can’t nab for themselves, even Spielberg.

Hence why many are wondering if movie makers will want to be involved, since Ubi could easily halt things for whatever reasons they see fit.

There are two basic reactions to this. First, those who are well aware of how badly video games movies suck, feel that this may be totally necessary to ensure an actually good adaptation. And perhaps the end result will speak for itself, and create a positive precedent.

Personally, I believe that game makers should have more creative input in movies based upon their work. Though that’s more of a “that would be nice” kind of deal, as opposed to “that’s the way it should be!” thing. But, and here comes the opposite view, given that making games and movies are two entirely different things, being too involved could spell disaster.

I unfortunately fear for the later. To be honest, and it’s not just a French thing (I hope), but the folk who run Ubi are often full of themselves. Not too long ago, you had the president stating that they couldn’t make good games anymore because the current systems (Xbox 360 & PS3) “can’t handle what we have in mind” or some similar b.s. reasoning.

BTW, I’m fully expecting their first crop of next gen titles to have some deficiency or another, and the excuse being, sorry but the new consoles are STILL not powerful enough to beautifully illustrate our genius!

Though more recently was their reaction to all the negative reviews to their lame-brained attempt at nabbing the music game market, aka Rocksmith, by stating that it was too head of the curb and innovative. lol

Basically, they’re smart and everyone else is stupid. And granted, they make some truly amazing games. But they also push complete drivel. Oh, speaking of, their latest dance offering, The Black Eyed Peas Experience, comes out tomorrow. And I’d be far more impressed if it wasn’t such a blatant rip-off of Dance Central. That and how I can’t stand the act, who themselves rip everyone off, so I guess it’s apropos…

What'd you think of this?
