The latest from the creator of ‘LA Noire’ is guaranteed to turn heads based upon its name alone
With a title The Whore of the Orient, how could it not?
As many folks know already, the chances of a LA Noire 2 is pretty much zilch. As noted already, Rockstar found it damn near impossible to work with Team Bondi, the studio behind the game, specifically the studio head, Brendan McNamara.
Despite having one of the games of year under its belt, Team Bondi recently ceased operations, leaving many wondering what the hell would happen to McNamara. Well, despite being called a blowhard and a raging egomaniac, among many other things, he was still involved in one of this year’s biggest titles, hence why he’s somewhat of an asset at the end of the day.
Hence why KMM Interactive, who purchased Team Bondi’s assets, decided to keep him around. Not long ago, he told the press that he was whipping together a game that was based upon “one of the great untold stories of the twentieth century.” And most recently, the name was finally divulged.
I agree with Kotaku; at the very least, The Whore of the Orient is one of the greatest video game names ever conceived. Otherwise, they’re just as clueless as to what this story might be about. Their guess that it takes place in the Chinese city of Shanghai is fairly sound, though Desstructoid‘s theory that it might be based upon the life and times of the Mata Hari has more substance and certainly sounds pretty exciting.
Though like many, I too am somewhat disappointed to hear that McNamara might not be involved in the Mad Max game that KMM Interactive was working on when they scooped up Bondi, with the belief being that LA Noire’s staff would be helped the project, which has been dragging its feet for literally years.
