The next ‘Resident Evil’ is in China? The next ‘Dead Space’ will be a FPS?

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

Tis the season where most of us are playing all the awesome games that just came out for the holidays. But it’s also the time in which production for next year’s hits go into high gear. What can we expect? That’s what rumors are for!

rumors The next Resident Evil is in China? The next Dead Space will be a FPS?

First off, there’s a good chance that the next Resident Evil might take place in China. All we know is that Resident Evil 6 is indeed in production, but that’s about it. The first natural question is where it’ll be located. And where does a storied franchise head towards next, especially since all virtually territory seems to have been accounted for at this point, or so it seems?

Especially since their last visit to foreign lands, aka Africa, received quite a bit of flack, due to whole “gee, you’re a white guy shooting a bunch of zombified black people” controversy that you may or may not have heard about. Why, do what World of Warcraft is doing; head east apparently. Though this is almost entire based upon the fact that a prominent Chinese voice actress recently added RE6 to her resume. And as noted, the fact that she’s credited as “Chinese villager” is the real proof, if you can call it that.

Next, last we heard, Dead Space 3 was going to take place on an ice planet, similar to Hoth from Empire Strikes Back if one had to guess. Now, after a management shake-up within the game’s publisher, further plans have been revealed, all indicative of one single goal: to make as much money out of the up and coming franchise as possible. We’ve already seen two straightforward action romps, an on-rails shooter, even a puzzle game (never mind the novelization, comic books, and direct to DVD animated feature). What’s next?

Why, a first person shooter (okay), a flight sim (what), and Uncharted in space type of deal. That’s on top of the already in the works (but not officially announced) proper sequel, all according to sources close to Kotaku. Yikes.

Staying with EA, the next Dragon Age will be a multiplayer affair. Gameplay-wise, it’ll supposedly be arena-based and feature PvP combat, along with PvE and PvD melee (with the later being player versus dragon). Fine whatever, but if they really want to address the previous game sucking, completely changing how one plays the game may not be as beneficial as simply taking the time to get it right. Dragon Age 2 was clearly rushed to the market, embarrassingly so.

And sticking with EA and multiplayer games even further is news that another Army of Two is in development. The latest will double the action so there’ll be four players working in tandem this time! Of all the speculated games, this one excites me the most since I was actually a fan of the first two installments, rough edges and all, so maybe third time might be a charm? Too bad the only early report thus far states that development is not going so hot. And that pretty much sucks.

What'd you think of this?
