VIDEO: A super awesome game just became super awesome cheap
As in totally free. The game in question? Team Fortress 2.
For those not familiar, it’s a super popular team based FPS that has set itself from the rest of the pack with it’s goofy, light-hearted demeanor. Basically, you’re part of either RED or BLUE team, and go head to head by assuming one of the three classes and one of the roles within: the offensive class includes the Scout, the Soldier, or the Pyro. The defensive team includes the Heavy, the Engineer, and the Demonman. Finally there’s the support squad, which includes the Medic, the Sniper, and the Spy. No need to describe what each does, their names make it fairly obvious what they do, and the most important thing is everyone is dripping with personality (and it’s all legit funny and amusing, something that’s damn near impossible to pull off in games it would seem).
Though what makes it all work is the gameplay, which is fast and furious, ultra balanced, plus most important of all, supremely robust. And it’s all free! Basically, the game does so well with its in-game purchases… mostly weapons, keys, and hats believe it or not… that Valve can afford to just let it loose, with no strings attached. There will be a few changes involved, but nothing major: now there’s two categories of players: Premium, meaning someone who paid for the game beforehand, or have shelled out monies for virtual goes, and Free folks are exactly just that, simply along for the ride.
Premium members also have access to larger backpacks, which help store more weapons and tools than a Free user could carry, plus the option to wear special threads, that sort of stuff. Given how easy it can be to become a Premium member, it’s all not a big deal. To jump right in, here’s the place to start!
