VIDEO: An ode to guys that like to be touchy-feely with other dudes, in fighting games

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

The latest edition of Fighterpedia is by far the most informative, yet also the most flat out confusing.

I generally try my best to feature video game related content that’s entertaining, yet somewhat easily understood. Unfortunately, the following does not fit the bill, the last part at least.

It’s all about grapplers in fighting games, with plenty of highlights of them doing their things. You’ll see a lots of words flash across the screen, most will make zero sense to the average person, but are in fact either names of special moves, the stuff that certain grapplers say when they beat you, or jokes coined from both. I’m dying to know where “God was wrong” is from.

It’s basically 6 minute plus in-joke between two pals that are into the same things as you are, but only more so, which will either make you chuckle or leave you annoyingly confused. Maybe both? I consider myself pretty fluent in games and game culture and even I don’t get 80% of what’s going on…

I assure you, hardcore fighting fans are all howling with laughter, as evidenced by the comments on the clip’s YouTube page and Destructoid, which is where I first found it. It’s like a totally foreign language…

“+1 point for Potemkin Bustah!
+1 point for King of Tager
-1 point for no backdash 720
-1 point for Calamity Trigger
+ infinity points for hypedog”

What? Exactly. BTW, here’s more of that big oily guy from Street Fighter 4, Hakan, which is the main reason why I honestly can’t take that game seriously anymore…

What'd you think of this?
