VIDEO: And that’s a wrap for Mortal Kombat: Legacy

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

The MK web series has finally returned from its hiatus. And… it’s already over?

Some might recall episode 9 being put on hold till the San Diego Comic Con, which just came and went. And thus we have an episode centered on Sektor and Cyrax, the two robot ninjas…

Not bad at all. Ketchup and Mustard (again, their original names in development) looked pretty awesome, especially the fight scene. Though maybe too awesome? Cuz apparently, that was it. Out of the blue it’s been noted that it’s a wrap for Legacy.

Not quite the ending I was expecting or hoping for; had assumed that everyone thus far would eventually cross paths. Me thinks they ran out of money… again. Apparently they hope to make some scratch for season two via DVD and Blu-ray sales, of all the episodes collected. Though honestly, I can’t see that happening (but it would certainly be nice).

Guess it’s a minor miracle that we got as many as we did; I’m still uncertain about the economics of things. I’m assuming Warner Bros, who published the game, funded the project, and maybe it helped to increase the visibility of Mortal Kombat. But to what to degree, and is it translating to $$$?

Hey, boring questions, but given how the web is where such stuff is happening and how limp the television landscape is, there still needs to be a pay to turn a profit for such things to continue. But again, the game is doing well for itself. Case is point…

As noted on Friday, Freddy Krueger is coming to the game as a downloadable character! Not much else is known other than what we know already: he’s dude August 9th.

It’s also been pointed out that he looks closest to the reboot from last year more (which I had COMPLETELY forgotten about) than Robert Englund, hence why he ain’t saying much (producers thought it would be a good idea to have him not say wacky one-liners… brilliant plan). And only now have I noticed that he’s got two bladed gloves on.

Actually, the only new nugget of info is courtesy of the game’s co-creator Ed Boon; in a recent interview, he stated how both Jason from Friday the 13th and Michael from Halloween were also considered! I don’t see why that still can’t happen…

What'd you think of this?
