VIDEO: Behold The Legend of Zelda: The Light Of Courage

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

Time for yet another internet history lesson, featuring a cross-eyed Link and his Taco Bell/KFC loving cohort.

So here’s the deal: back in the day, we’re talking like 2003, some dude appears on the internet, the IGN message board to be exact, claiming that he has an awesome idea for his own animated Legend of Zelda flick.

Due to a combination of how absurd the idea is (he doesn’t have rights to the property, duh), and how poorly written the post is (akin to a Chinese spambot offering sexual meds), everyone either points and laughs or just writes him off. You know, the usual stuff. And then soon enough, he actually produces a “proof of concept/test animation”. Which results in the whole internet going NUTS. Here’s part one…

Not long after, part two popped up, with improved production values and even greater weirdness…

Believe it or not, sue people still thought this was real. Anyhow, part three was the most impressive yet, thanks to fans with technical abilities wanting to chip in…

Part four, which was looking to take itself somewhat seriously (which was a risky move to say the last) was teased, but never fully fleshed out. But there’s a trailer at least…

Then came something called The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage – The Bitcrusher…

Here we have Link playing Halo…

Parts three and four make even less sense btw. And finally we have part three once again, but with annotations from the creator, pointing out all the in-jokes and the like.

It sucks that the website that served as the official HQ for the effort has since become a place for spam bloggers advertising real estate in the Dominican Republic and the like. All that knowledge, lost to the ages.

But there’s a Facebook page now at least, where on can keep abreast of details on how Light of Courage proper is coming along!

What'd you think of this?
