VIDEO: Behold the sequel to ‘Strider’ that didn’t happen
Remember that side-scroller for the Genesis called Strider, with the gigantic blade and even bigger robo-Tyrannosaurus Rex, and which took place in Mother Russia, circa 2048? No? Not surprising, hence why the sequel was canned I guess.
Many games are green-lit but quietly canned, and we never hear about most of them. But sometimes we do, thanks to the company being involved going under, and no longer have any need to hold onto secrets. As is the case with Swedish developer Grin.
A Spanish gaming blog was able to obtain assets relating to several unreleased games, which has since been rebroadcasted by Eurogamer. And they were working on a bunch of stuff, including a reboot of Streets of Rage, plus something Final Fantasy related. Though most curious of all was a apparent Strider rehash…
Looks hot, though it’s perhaps worth mention that Grin was behind the Bionic Commando reboot that bombed spectacularly, hence why they shut their doors in the first place. For those who never played it, I’ll save you the time and trouble: turned out, your bionic arm was your wife. Kid you not.
And on a totally coincidental note, the Genesis original just came out for the Wii’s Virtual Console earlier this week! Plus, there already was a sequel, for the original PlayStation. Wasn’t bad. And at the very least, the lead still leads an active life, as part of the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise.
