VIDEO: Documentary accidentally uses game footage that doesn’t even look all that real
Sure Battlefield and Call of Duty feature hyper realistic graphics that might be confused for the real thing upon first glance. But wait till you check out game in question.
So ITV, aka BBC Channel 3, recently ran a documentary that details the IRA (whom one has to assume that they have no love for)’s association with Gadaffi, who apparently has supplied them with weapons of destruction. This includes footage of the IRA shooting down a helicopter, which was found randomly on the internet.
And ITV clearly didn’t do their research, because it was from a video game. Not even one that looks all that impressive/realistic, let alone one you’ve heard of before. The game in question is called Arma II, and here it is, being passed off as the real thing, with a look at the unfiltered game footage immediate afterward…
… Again, it’s not like something you’ve seen from Modern Warfare, which mimics footage you see on the news. Granted, the level of graphical detail is actually pretty impressive, but the fact that everyone is frozen is somewhat of a deal give away that something’s up, me thinks.
According to Kotaku, the CEO of the company that make Arma II, Bohemia Interactive, wan’t even aware of this whole deal till they told him. And no doubt he has to be happy with the extra publicity that his now two year old, semi-obscure PC title has all of a sudden gotten.
Since I don’t following British television, let alone live in the UK, I’m just going to take what is said in the comments section as being valid. Basically, how ITV already has a crap reputation and this latest blunder is yet another black eye, plus how the folks involved have probably been fired already.
