VIDEO: Even more highlights from this year’s EVO 2011
For those missed the selected highlights from earlier in the week, or for those who simply want a little more, here’s the top five “hype moments” of what many are calling the best all-around EVO of all time…
… Sure we’ve seen the kid already, along with Tron Bonne grabbing Phoenix, but at least in the case of the latter, I will NEVER grow tired of looking at that footage. FYI, regarding the dude that’s #4, Justin Wong, he’s without a doubt one of the most polarizing figures in the pro fighting scene. Hate to constantly bring it up, but he was the dude on the receiving end of this; legend goes that he did a look of things that you just should do in a tournament setting, behavior that could have labeled as a dick, so many felt that Wong got the whipping he deserves. He’s also from NYC, which also means he automatically has his fans and detractors.
As for the one who dealt the punishment, I’ve already mentioned how Daigo Umehara getting kicked to the curb was one of the biggest headlines at this year’s tournament, so it’s nice to see how things actually went down in the #1 spot. Needless to say, the 4:55 mark is pure hilarity. Hey, that’s what happens when folks who are constantly marginalized by society (aka huge goddam nerds) become gods among their peers; they act just as cocky and retarded as the ones who pushed them around.
It’s also worth noting that the guy is Korean, and given that Umehara is Japan, anyone aware of relations between the two nationalities should know what the deal really was. Thank God that he actually backed up his stride with the skills. Still, would have been funnier if he was chugging Mountain Dew instead of Red Bull.
But seriously, would have loved to be in that room that evening, sounds like one hell of a crowd. And a crowd it was; more than 2,400 participants from 44 countries gathered last weekend in Vegas. Meanwhile, more than 2 million folks caught the action online and absorbed… get this… 1.9 million hours of content, according to the press release that EVO organizers just handed out. Jesus.
