VIDEO: How does one make countless Zelda fans piss their pants in unison?

Matt Hawkins Contributing Writer, Video Games

In the trailer for your new game, hide a reference to an older game, nice and deep. Bonus points if it takes some time for it to get uncovered.

This trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword that made its debut at the Game Developers Conference in late February (or was it early March, I forget) had an Easter Egg that was only uncovered about 48 hours ago. And has been making Zelda and Nintendo fanboys and girls giggle with glee every since.

EDIT: I’m going to embed Kotaku’s version instead of the source’s because it performs the trick for you, that is play the trailer forward and then immediately hits the rewind button…

Not gonna lie; I think I’ve watched that video maybe 30 times.

BTW, this reminds me of the small stink that Ocarina originally created when the classic Hyrule overworld theme was not included. I too was bummed out at first… I think it was almost ten years later till someone pointed out they were essentially the same compositions but with a ridiculously small number of notes changed. Unfortunately, I can find no YouTube clip in which someone has already drawn the comparison for me. Though I’d like to think that it doesn’t mean it’s not true…

Mind blown: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – GDC 2011 trailer music played backwards is very familiar [Go Nintendo]

What'd you think of this?
