VIDEO: How to make Liberty City even prettier

For those with the right hardware (and software), you seriously won’t need a Grand Theft Auto 5.

If you’re like me, you never really got into GTA 4 and yet will still get the next iteration, whatever it might be, to feature a virtual recreation of the Big Apple. Sure I have the luxury of living in Manhattan, why do I need to experience the streets in an electronic form as well? To get away with murder, obviously! Though seriously, most of the fun in the game can be found just roaming the finely details environments, which got even finer.

Check out the iCEnhancer mod, infuses the PC version of GTA 4 with higher resolution textures, plus a few additional (and eye-popping) effects…

Insane, I know. Even with the stuttering frame rate (which is due to how the footage was captured, and nothing to do with the mod itself, which is expected to be buttery smooth), the buildings in particular looks photorealistic. That’s version 1.2.5 btw, which is still being perfected. Though who are impatient, there’s 1.2, which is available now and still looks damn amazing…

Unfortunately, getting it all working is rather tricky. Apparently you need a slightly older version of the game to play with, meaning those who just updated will need to do a clean install I’m afraid. Details (as well as a download link) can be found here.
