VIDEO: Meet Rich Knuckles, your ‘Serious Sam 3′ helpline operator

Also, witness yet another example of a video game trying to be funny, and actually succeeding.

I’ve already mentioned Serious Sam once before, and compared it to Duke Nukem. The latter was supposedly a breathe of fresh air, a dose of much needed levity and personality to the then rather straight and narrow FPS genre. But the former was somewhat a parody of the first, or to some, a rather no-nonsense (and no frills) attempt at what had tried. And in many ways, it was far more successful.

Because at the end of the day, the game was better and it didn’t try as hard to be funny. Because, as noted yesterday, I can’t stand people who try way too hard to be funny, but are not. Hence why the latest Duke flopped really; even if the game part blew, if it was as legit humorous as it thought it was, I don’t think the backlash to Duke Nukem Forever would have been nearly as great.

Anyhow, back to the long-awaited Serious Sam 3 is again looking to avoid the same mistakes of that other franchise. The aforementioned indie titles have done their job to wet people’s appetites, so now it’s time for the main course. And with it, and advertising campaign…

… Granted, not every second of it is pure comedy gold, and it is still a bunch of commercials after-all. But it’s far better than most other efforts. Can’t wait for the game to finally arrive! Which is next month, on the 18th.

What'd you think of this?
