VIDEO: ‘Minecraft: Pocket Edition’ just came out and it’s not worth the trouble

Two new iOS games came out today. One has you building crap out of virtual lego blocks, the other putting words together to form words. Any guesses as to which one is more fun to play? Well, you’d be surprised.

As noted a couple of days ago, there’s a dedicated Minecraft convention happening this weekend in Vegas. One of the centerpieces will be the official unveiling of the long-awaited final version of the game, 2.0, but there’s also the long-awaited iOS port of the game’s portable version, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, which is out right this second, as evidenced by the link.

It’s something that Android users have been digging info for the past couple of weeks now (mostly Xperia Play owners, since unfortunately, it’s the ONLY thing that they’ve been able to enjoy, aside from Crash Bandicoot 1)…

So speaking as a Minecraft fanboy, been looking forward to this very moment for some time now! Hence why I was so disappointed to hear about the vast amount of features that aren’t included. I was expecting SOME concessions, but the list is far longer than even I had assumed it to be. Like no resource management, no passage of time, and no health or status to oversee. Hell, you can’t even craft stuff or even mine! Sorry, perhaps that’s all on the way, but until then…

Here’s something else that just came down, comparatively lower under the radar. It’s certainly not the kind of game that I normally play, but I think the fact that it was made by a person who also doesn’t play said types of games is why it works so well (hence why I know about it in the first place; am a fan of the creator’s previous offerings)…

It also helps that SpellTower is also much cheaper than Minecraft: Pocket Edition. The only negative is how it’s only iPad only for the time being, but hopefully a future update will fix that. To nab a copy, simply click here.

What'd you think of this?
