VIDEO: MK fans also have a new way to nab DLC (provided you have a Xbox 360)
It’s a big day for Mortal Kombat fans, though depending on what system you’re on, one might have slightly less reasons to celebrate.
Again, no Mortal Kombat: Legacy update as noted last time (and a correction; San Diego Comic Con is in July, not June as I had previously thing). But as also mentioned in another previous post, there’s a new character on the way, Skarlet, plus that pair of lovable cyber ninjas are getting their old duds back as well…
The original Ketchup & Mustard are back! That’s what they were called while Mortal Kombat 3 was being put together btw. But yeah, I’ve always loved their classic look, and am glad to see them return (makes you wonder why it was changed in the first place).
So here’s the deal: they’re actually free, as part of the Mortal Kombat Compatibility Pack #1, which allows folks who haven’t downloaded (i.e. want to pay for) Skarlet to play against players that have her online. Though if you do choose to buy her, they’re included a bonus.
Here’s where things get confusing for PS3 owners, of course: if you go to the PlayStation Store, you’ll find Skarlet for sale, but no Compatibility Pack. Instead, you’ll have to directly log into the game and access additional online content via that. It’ll be your second option, and there you go!
Oh, it gets even better for PlayStation folks; over on the Xbox side, MK users are getting something similar to the Rockstar Pass that LA Noire players have (as detailed here). The new incentive is called the Kombat Pass, and for $15, you get Skarlet plus all the other new kombatants coming down the pipeline (I believe 4 in total) for one low-ish price.
Unfortunately, there will be no Kombat Pass for PS3 owners. No reason has been stated, though we all know it’s not technical in nature, since the Rockstar Pass works quite fine on my Sony box. Plus, whose to say these new characters will be all that amazing (I’m certainly not going ga-ga for Skarlet, that’s for sure). Still, annoying nonetheless.
